Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "CIMC SOE") recently joined hands with Wuyang Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Wuyang Steel") to hold a grand ceremony for the delivery of the first domestically produced high-manganese steel marine fuel tank and the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement. Wang Jianding, Executive Deputy General Manager of CIMC SOE, Lou Jiwei, Deputy General Manager, Wei Guangsheng, Director of Procurement Department; Long Jie, Deputy General Manager of Wuyang Steel; representatives from Germany's Hartmann Group, AC-INOX, and DNV classification society, as well as the project teams, all attended to witness this important moment together.
At the delivery ceremony, Deputy General Manager Lou Jiwei of CIMC SOE delivered a speech, expressing heartfelt gratitude to all guests present. He emphasized that the smooth progress of this project could not have been possible without the strong support of all cooperating parties. The practical application of high-manganese steel on the S1065 vessel marks CIMC SOE as the first enterprise in China capable of taking orders for high-manganese steel projects, offering shipowners diversified and cost-effective solutions. The strategic cooperation between the two parties represents a complementary advantage in technology and resources, as well as an accurate grasp and joint exploration of future market trends. Finally, he sincerely hoped that all cooperating parties would work together to promote the research and application of related technologies in the shipping industry, infusing new vitality and impetus into the green development of global shipping.
Deputy General Manager Long Jie of Wuyang Steel mentioned that with the strong support of the Hartmann Group and DNV classification society, Wuyang Steel adheres to the goals of "seeking development and valuing win-win" and has established a deep friendship with CIMC SOE, working together to successfully complete the R&D of sample tanks made from high-manganese steel and achieve the first practical application on a vessel in China, serving as a model and leading role domestically. He expressed gratitude for the continuous support and trust received from all parties towards Wuyang Steel.
Amidst a warm and solemn atmosphere, both parties formally signed the strategic cooperation agreement. According to the agreement, CIMC SOE and Wuyang Steel will conduct comprehensive cooperation in the research and development, manufacturing, market expansion, and technological innovation of high-manganese steel marine fuel tanks, jointly building a leading domestic high-manganese steel marine fuel tank industrial base.
Since 2022, CIMC SOE, Wuyang Steel, and related classification societies and research institutes have formed a joint R&D team dedicated to the practical application of high-manganese steel. Through persistent efforts, the team successfully overcame key technologies such as material performance regulation, welding material matching, and storage tank preparation, releasing product standards and application guidelines, achieving original innovation across the entire high-manganese steel industry chain.
Notably, the marine fuel tank delivered that day for the "GasChem Phoenix" vessel represents the first application of this material in the construction of an actual ship in China, signifying the transition of the new generation of low-cost, high-performance cryogenic domestic high-manganese steel from basic research to engineering applications in China. This milestone not only injects new vitality into the development of China's shipbuilding industry but also provides strong support for the green development of the global shipping industry.
