The largest in the country! The first LNG Type B liquid cargo tank of CIMC SOE was successfully shipped
2023-10-22

On October 22, 2023, the largest IMO independent Type B liquid cargo tank built by Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering Co., LTD. (hereinafter referred to as "CIMC SOE") for Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., LTD. (hereinafter referred to as "Hudong Zhonghua"), a subsidiary of CIMC Anric, was successfully shipped at CIMC SOE eastern terminal. CIMC SOE has made a major breakthrough in the field of B-type tank, broadened the company's product range in the cryogenic liquid cargo transportation market, and successfully covered the full series of ABC type liquid cargo tanks.

The Type B cargo tank project delivered this time, a total of one ship set, two cargo tanks, is the largest LNG type B cargo tank in China, will be installed in 14,000 cubic meters of LNG transport refueling ship. The ship is classified into China Classification Society (CCS), which can realize the dual functions of one-stop LNG refueling and transportation from river to sea. The Type B tank has a prismatic shape and a capacity of about 6,950m³ per tank. Compared with the traditional type C tank, the Type B tank has the advantages of high capacity utilization and flexible design.

Elaborate planning, start on schedule, win customer affirmation

In view of the special product characteristics of Type B cabin, under the strong support of Huaihe Energy, the customer Hudong Zhonghua, the company's leadership attaches great importance to, through the cooperation of the project team, CIMC SOE for the first time to design B cabin, involving the internal outfitting platform, piping system layout and stress analysis and other detailed design work, and for the construction of type B cabin, The whole project team planned in advance and fully discussed, and formulated plans such as segmented production process, welding process, and total segment closing accuracy control procedure to ensure smooth construction. In addition, the B-type tank mainly adopts modular construction methods such as segmented production and total section closure, which can greatly reduce the construction cycle.

At the beginning of 2023, CIMC SOE carefully prepared the design, procurement, construction and other works in the early stage of the project, facilitated the project to start on schedule, and was highly recognized by the customer, and sent a letter of thanks to the company, praising and affirming the careful planning and efficient organization of the project team, and effectively promoted the efficient construction of the project.

Overcome difficulties, smooth delivery, and achieve a breakthrough from 0 to 1

In the face of new products and new processes, although we have made detailed planning in the early stage, we still encounter many challenges when putting them into practice: In the first half of 2023, the company's offshore products will be intensively started. In order to ensure the progress of B-type cabin and take into account other offshore products, the offshore engineering division will assign a professional B cabin construction team to rationally allocate production resources and continuously sort out and optimize the process; the project team took measures such as parallel process, continuous breakthrough of key nodes, and establishment of daily site meeting system to ensure the quality and progress in accordance with the plan.

Secondly, due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the pressurized wood block arrived late, for the whole project, the process technology is facing a great adjustment, from falling, displacement, hydraulic test, insulation installation to shipping and delivery, the construction period is facing a huge challenge. In this regard, after several special meetings of the project team, the shipowner and Hudong were invited to check, and the optimization was carried out one draft after another. Finally, the efforts paid off, and a plan was found that could not only ensure the delivery of the project, but also be recognized by the customer, and the follow-up plan was implemented smoothly, which won precious time for the timely delivery of the project.

The successful delivery of the IMO independent Type B cargo tank project is a milestone for CIMC SOE in the process of developing a variety of LNG containment systems, successfully expanding the company's product business line and greatly enhancing its market competitiveness. Subsequently, CIMC SOE will continue to deepen the field of liquefied gas storage and transportation, with professional and efficient facilities, skilled and experienced team, to continue to provide flexible products and services for global customers.
